Überseequartier Hafencity- Baufeld 34/16 | Hamburg | 2012
“Waves in Überseequartier”
The competition area is located in the central port city on the northwestern edge of Überseequartier and quartier is across the street along the Sandtorkai, Singapurstraße, Tokiostraße and nearby Sandtorpark the last remaining undeveloped construction site. The Überseeuqartier closes immediately south of the historic Speicherstadt and has been developed to Überseeallee; it extends up to the final state Norderelbe.
From this situation, the central idea of the concept has evolved. Meandering arranged polygonal bay windows protrude evenly out of the building line to allow lateral views (wave pattern). The uniform arrangement of the bay give rise to a lively but orderly facade, which despite their introverted location aware not hidden, but from the series emerges without architectural influence disturbing. Of existing buildings Überseequarter Boulevard and the buildings of the district Sandtorpark / Grasbrookhafen are aligned to Sandtorpark. The construction area 34/15 with commercial use shields the residential building of the construction site 34/16 from street noise is facing a street Sandtorkai. The meandering bay windows allow views of the future residents, for which it now is to look across the street at the Sandtorpark towards the Elbe and Sandtorpark or Elbe Philharmonic Hall and on the Osakaallee to Brooktorhafen possible through the facade arrangement. The building does not hide and emerges from the second row.
