After demolition of the former Hertie department store to basic facilities for urban development restructuring of this area arise. The plan authors have exploited this opportunity to arrange the topography of the site new: At the level of the Kurt-Schumacher-Platz next level down in the extension of the school road just after the Deutsche Bank building is lowered to the level of the Konrad-Adenauer-Straße. Former Kurt-Schumacher-Platz maintains the current level.
A new urban space “New chateau” with scale dimensions sets a new accent. The new courtyard is surrounded by retail use. In the north as a conclusion to the Deutsche Bank building an expressive, round structure is proposed as a focal point of the square with the library and a cafe on the ground floor. The round design is to lead the eye from the School Street to the west, where attractive buildings are arranged with retail use.
The urban concept is characterized by 4 new building structures, the total up – concept of the “new center of Gronau” lane. In the name new courtyard to meet that new buildings were (temporarily) invested with the names of the counts and princes who directed the destiny of the city beginning of the story.
The glass facades sin so designed that they can also receive other benefits (for example, only office). For the library a façade calculation is planned that the history of the city with the SCHLOß GRONAU – is represented (1568 76).
As an essential and creative formative Facade material brick in Gronau is predominant. So this material should serve as a basis for all new buildings.
