Living and working on Humboldthafen | 1st purchase in 2013 competition The requirements of the stringent blocking has been optimized from the plan authors in favor of better living and office space in the block interior by inserting a large “window” for Humboldthafen: 1. utilization of the visual axis and the block interior for both the dwellings and particularly for offices for water | 2. better airing of the captured courtyards | 3. direct reference from the patio to the water and use of this surface (4 storeys airspace) as designed space with residential quality: the terrace for all (in the courtyard) the water and expansion of children’s play areas.
This guiding principle is formative for the draft. The loss of BGF is more than compensated for by the quality achieved for usages. From the position in the center of Berlin with views of the sights (inter alia government district), the guiding principle for the facade of the concept developed. Meandering arranged polygonal Erker protrude evenly from the building line out to allow lateral views also from the east and west facades to Humboldthafen (wave pattern). The uniform arrangement of the bay can be a moving but orderly facade arise that would deliberately not been hidden, but emerges from the series. The apartments in the vermeidlich disadvantaged layers do not hide, as well as also obtained property for courtyard, through the “window” views to Humboldthafen.
