the niu Yen Hotel | Nordkanalstraße Hamburg | 2022

Client: Nordkanal 46 Projekt GmbH

Construction period: 2018-2022

GFA: 11.000 m²

Rooms: 347

New construction of an 8-story hotel building with a total of 347 guest rooms of which a total of 32 are barrier-free and wheelchair accessible.

The property is located in Hamburg Hammerbrook on Nordkanalstraße and is connected to Wandalenweg to the south. The commercially dominated district of Hammerbrook is in a state of upheaval. Plan B Hammerbrook 13 has also made residential construction possible. The proximity to the main train station makes the district interesting for both residential and tourist accommodation.

The new building is seen as a building block for urban repair with a design that fits into the overall effect of the street. The spatial edge along the Nordkanalstaße is closed by connecting neighboring new buildings, forms a clear urban spatial edge and at the same time is a noise emission shield for the residential construction on Wandalenweg. The apartments planned for the first time could be a “blueprint for the continuation of the district’s development into a lively, mixed and urban city space”. A green corridor accompanying the street with a bicycle route in the near future would certainly be a further upgrade from an urban development perspective.
