With a 4th prize (purchase), the Hamburg architecture firm prasch, buken and partner, together with its partner office FBI Studios, Budapest, achieved a respectable success in Hungary. The jury was acclaimed for its “architectural ideas, the well-thought-out urban arrangement of the axes and the uniqueness of the relationship between water and the city district”. The two-stage international competition with a total of 17 participants was decided on 19 December 2018. The subject of the Master Plan Design Competition is the Urban Development of South Pest and North Csepel, Budapest. On an unused area of nearly 135 ha along a Danube canal, a “student city” is to create an adequate housing space for nearly 12,000 students, which catalyzes the urban development of the area and creates an attractive new city district in Budapest’s capital with sports facilities and public facilities. The first partial implementation can take place until the World Championships in Athletics 2023.
