Competition 3rd Prize: Reuse of Klinikum Holwedestrasse in Braunschweig

Characterized by valuable villa-like existing buildings of the clinic and old tree stock, old and new buildings merge into smaller residential quarters with different housing forms. The central point is the neighborhood center located in the middle of the competition area, featuring dining areas, seminar and event rooms, as well as the identity-defining neighborhood park that stretches down to the Oker River, offering a unique quality of stay. The diversity of the existing buildings of the old clinic allows for the planning of senior living, day care, and communal housing. “The work includes a clear urban concept with quarters grouped around courtyards, providing a high degree of permeability between Holwedestrasse and Oker,” the jury concluded.
