Groundbreaking for Airbus-Service Center ElbAir

The construction of the 60€ million Airbus ElbAir Service Center began with a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony in the first week of May. In addition to Airbus, the center will also house the Techniker Krankenkasse, Globetrotter, a local supplier, and a “Moxy” hotel by Marriott.

The design of the project was inspired by the airplane, with a focus on the turbine as one of its essential components. Architect Alf M. Prasch from prasch buken partner architekten bda explained this concept to Hamburg’s Finance Senator Andreas Dressel and other guests during the groundbreaking ceremony.

The next step involves driving several hundred piles into the marshland. Despite rising construction costs, the Senator expressed his wishes for the project’s success by saying, “Then go ahead and build beautifully!” The completion of the KFW-55-certified building is planned for spring 2024.
